This Spooky Black Velvet Halloween Punch is a showstopper that looks like liquid midnight with swirling purple ribbons. It’s creamy, fizzy, and subtly sweet, made with simple ingredients for a crowd-pleasing party drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) black raspberry juice or blackberry juice
  • 4 cups (960 ml) lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 pint (about 475 ml) blackberry or raspberry sorbet
  • 1 cup (240 ml) vanilla ice cream or coconut cream (optional)
  • 1 cup (about 150 grams) frozen blackberries or raspberries
  • Black sanding sugar or edible glitter (for rimming glasses, optional)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional)
  • 1 to 1.5 cups (240 to 360 ml) vodka or black vodka (optional, for alcoholic version)
  • Black rum (optional substitute for alcoholic version)

Instructions

  1. Prep your garnishes first. Rinse the frozen berries and set them aside. If rimming glasses, pour black sanding sugar onto a small plate, wet the rims of punch cups with a lemon wedge, and dip into the sugar. Set aside to dry.
  2. Chill your juice base. In a large pitcher, combine black raspberry juice, pineapple juice, and lemon juice. Stir well and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
  3. When ready to serve, pour the chilled juice mixture into a punch bowl. Slowly add the lemon-lime soda, pouring gently down the side to preserve carbonation. Stir once or twice.
  4. Using an ice cream scoop, add 4 to 6 scoops of sorbet to the punch. Do not stir; let them float on top to create purple swirls as they melt.
  5. Drop the frozen berries into the punch. They will sink and help keep the punch cold.
  6. Serve immediately. Ladle into prepared glasses, ensuring each cup gets a few berries. If adding alcohol, stir it into the punch bowl just before serving or let guests add their own.
  7. Refresh as needed: add more soda and a scoop or two of sorbet as the punch gets low.

Notes

Chill all ingredients thoroughly for best results. Do not over-stir to maintain the layered effect. For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream instead of ice cream. For a lower-sugar version, use diet soda and sugar-free sorbet. The punch is best enjoyed fresh; leftovers can be refrigerated but will lose carbonation.
