A simple yet elegant appetizer featuring creamy brie wrapped in flaky puff pastry with a sweet fig jam center, perfect for entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 8 oz / 230 g), thawed
  • 8 oz (225 g) wheel of brie cheese, rind on
  • 3 tablespoons fig jam
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
  • Optional: chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Optional: drizzle of honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into roughly a 12-inch (30 cm) square.
  3. Optionally, slice off the top rind of the brie wheel to expose the creamy interior.
  4. Spread about 2 tablespoons of fig jam over the top of the brie wheel. If using, sprinkle nuts or herbs on top of the jam.
  5. Place the brie in the center of the puff pastry. Fold the pastry corners up over the brie, sealing the edges underneath. Use extra pastry to decorate if desired.
  6. Brush the puff pastry generously with the beaten egg wash.
  7. Optionally, score a pattern on top of the pastry with a sharp knife without cutting all the way through.
  8. Bake on the prepared baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  9. Let the wrapped brie rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use for best puffiness. If pastry browns too quickly, tent with foil. Let brie rest after baking to prevent cheese from oozing out too fast. Can be made gluten-free with alternative pastry and vegan with dairy-free brie and plant-based pastry.
