A quick and elegant appetizer featuring sweet cantaloupe cubes wrapped in salty prosciutto, finished with a tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect for summer gatherings and easy to assemble.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small cantaloupe (about 3 cups cubed, 450g)
  • 810 thin slices prosciutto (about 100g)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • A handful of fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Toothpicks or small skewers
  • Extra virgin olive oil (light drizzle, optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the cantaloupe in half and scoop out seeds. Slice the melon into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes.
  2. Separate the prosciutto slices gently and cut each slice into strips about 1.5 inches (4 cm) wide.
  3. Wrap each cantaloupe cube with a strip of prosciutto and thread onto a skewer or toothpick. Optionally add a fresh basil leaf beneath or on top of the prosciutto.
  4. To make homemade balsamic glaze, pour 1/2 cup (120ml) balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until reduced by half and syrupy (about 10-15 minutes). Let cool.
  5. Arrange skewers on a serving platter and drizzle evenly with balsamic glaze. Optionally drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Serve immediately or chill for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use ripe but firm cantaloupe to prevent mushy cubes. If short on time, store-bought balsamic glaze works well. Assemble skewers just before serving to avoid sogginess. Variations include adding mozzarella or swapping melon types. For vegan option, replace prosciutto with smoked tofu or marinated mushrooms.
