Fun and playful jello shots with a fizzy Pop Rocks rim, perfect for parties and celebrations. These shots combine sweet, tangy flavors with a surprising crackle in every bite.

  • 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin powder (about 21 grams)
  • 1 cup boiling water (240 ml)
  • 1 cup cold water (240 ml)
  • 1 cup flavored drink (fruit punch or cherry-flavored juice recommended) (240 ml)
  • 1 cup liquor of choice (vodka, tequila, or flavored vodka) (240 ml)
  • Pop Rocks candy, 1 packet per shot (about 3-5 grams each)
  • 1–2 teaspoons sugar (optional)
  • Non-stick spray or vegetable oil (for greasing shot cups)

Instructions

  1. Pour 3 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin powder into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1 cup boiling water and whisk until completely dissolved, about 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in 1 cup cold water plus 1 cup flavored drink. Add 1-2 teaspoons sugar if desired and whisk until dissolved.
  4. Pour in 1 cup liquor of choice and stir gently but thoroughly to combine.
  5. Lightly grease the rims of shot glasses with vegetable oil using a brush or finger.
  6. Pour Pop Rocks candy onto a small plate. Dip the oiled rims into the Pop Rocks, pressing gently to coat evenly.
  7. Carefully pour the gelatin mixture into each rimmed shot glass, filling about 3/4 full.
  8. Place the filled shot glasses in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or until fully set.
  9. Serve chilled. The Pop Rocks will fizz and crackle on contact with your lips.

Notes

Use chilled liquor and juice for better gelatin setting. Rim the shot glasses with Pop Rocks just before serving to keep the fizz fresh. Adjust water slightly if gelatin is too firm or too soft. Avoid freezing as it changes texture and fizz. For non-alcoholic version, replace liquor with extra juice or soda. Use sugar-free gelatin and diet soda for diabetic-friendly option.
