This easy salted caramel dip for apple slices is a five-minute miracle that tastes like you spent an hour on the stove. It’s the perfect sweet and salty treat for fall gatherings or a simple snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt, plus more for topping

Instructions

  1. Soften your cream cheese and butter by letting them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or microwave on low power in 10-second intervals until soft.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Beat with an electric hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl halfway through.
  3. Add the packed brown sugar and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed at first, then increase to medium speed and beat for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth, silky, and light and fluffy like a thick frosting.
  4. Add the 1/2 teaspoon of flaky sea salt and beat on low speed just until incorporated. Taste and adjust salt or vanilla as desired.
  5. Optional: Cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to allow flavors to meld and the dip to firm up.
  6. While the dip chills, slice apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji) into thick slices about 1/4 inch thick. Toss with a little lemon juice and water to prevent browning.
  7. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, sprinkle with a generous pinch of flaky sea salt on top, and arrange apple slices around the bowl. Serve immediately or at room temperature.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and unsalted butter. Make sure cream cheese and butter are truly softened to room temperature to avoid lumps. Flaky sea salt is non-negotiable for the topping; fine table salt will dissolve and lose the texture. The dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving and stir well. The dip can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
