These easy mini mummy hot dogs are wrapped in flaky puff pastry and baked until golden. Perfect for Halloween parties, they’re a fun, crowd-pleasing snack that disappears fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 24 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 48 candy eyes (2 per mummy)
  • Mustard or ketchup (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Thaw your puff pastry. Let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes until cold but pliable.
  3. Cut the puff pastry into strips. On a lightly floured surface, cut into thin strips about 1/2 inch wide and 6 inches long.
  4. Wrap the hot dogs. Take one strip of puff pastry and wrap it around a mini hot dog, starting at one end and working to the other. Leave a small gap near the top for the eyes. Don’t wrap too tight.
  5. Place on the baking sheet. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each.
  6. Apply the egg wash. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Lightly brush the tops of each mummy with the egg wash.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Add the eyes. Let cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes, then press two candy eyes onto each mummy near the top. If the eyes aren’t sticking, dab a tiny bit of mustard or ketchup on the back.
  9. Serve warm. Transfer to a platter and serve with mustard, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold to maintain flakiness. Don’t over-wrap the hot dogs; 2-3 wraps is ideal. Add candy eyes after baking to prevent melting. For make-ahead, assemble up to the egg wash step and refrigerate for a few hours before baking. Freeze unbaked mummies for up to 2 months.
