These Halloween Dirt Cups with Gummy Worms are a quick and easy no-bake dessert that looks like a spooky graveyard. Layers of creamy chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo ‘dirt,’ and gummy worms create a fun and delicious treat that kids and adults love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3.9 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package Oreo cookies
  • 1 (5 oz) bag gummy worms
  • Optional: 8-10 small clear plastic cups (5-7 oz each)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the whole package of Oreos into a large zip-top bag. Seal it, then use a rolling pin to crush them into fine crumbs. Set aside. You’ll use about 3/4 for layers and reserve the rest for topping.
  2. Beat the cream cheese: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes with a hand mixer on medium speed.
  3. Make the pudding base: In a large bowl, whisk the instant pudding mix with the cold milk for about 2 minutes until it starts to thicken. Let it sit for 2 minutes to set up.
  4. Combine the cream cheese and pudding: Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding and beat on low speed until fully combined. The mixture should be smooth, thick, and glossy.
  5. Fold in the whipped topping: Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the pudding mixture using a spatula. Fold until no white streaks remain. The mixture should look light and airy like a mousse.
  6. Layer the cups: Spoon about 2 tablespoons of crushed Oreos into the bottom of each cup. Tap gently to level. Then spoon or pipe the pudding mixture on top, filling each cup about 3/4 full.
  7. Add the gummy worms: Press 2-3 gummy worms into the pudding in each cup, letting some hang over the edge like they’re crawling out of the dirt.
  8. Top with more ‘dirt’: Sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos over the top of each cup, covering the pudding completely. Add another gummy worm on top if desired.
  9. Chill: Refrigerate the cups for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight. This lets the flavors meld and the texture set properly.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps. Crush Oreos finely but not to powder for the best ‘dirt’ texture. Assemble the night before for the best flavor, but add gummy worms on top just before serving to keep them chewy. For a savory twist, add a pinch of sea salt to the Oreo crumbs.
