A warm, spicy, and dippable buffalo chicken dip baked inside a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl. Ready in 30 minutes, this one-dish wonder is perfect for game day, potlucks, or a cozy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar recommended)
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 1 lb)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take cream cheese out to soften.
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top of the bread loaf. Remove the top piece and set aside. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick shell. Tear the removed bread into bite-sized pieces and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Brush the inside of the bread bowl with melted butter (mixed with garlic powder if using). Place the bread bowl on the baking sheet.
  4. Make the dip: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo hot sauce, and ranch dressing. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  5. Fold in the shredded chicken and 3/4 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until evenly coated.
  6. Fill the bread bowl: Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf. Spread evenly, then top with remaining 1/4 cup cheddar cheese and crumbled blue cheese (if using).
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and golden. If bread browns too quickly, tent loosely with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes.
  8. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve immediately with reserved bread pieces, crackers, celery sticks, or carrot chips.

Notes

For best results, use a sturdy bread loaf like sourdough. Soften cream cheese to room temperature for smooth mixing. Let dip rest 5 minutes after baking to prevent burns and allow flavors to meld. For extra crispy bread pieces, toss with olive oil and salt and bake for 5-7 minutes while dip bakes.
