These crispy pencil pretzel rods coated with creamy yellow chocolate offer a delightful salty-sweet snack that’s quick and easy to make, perfect for gifting or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • About 20 pencil pretzel rods (approximately 10 inches or 25 cm long)
  • 10 ounces (285 grams) yellow chocolate melts
  • 1 tablespoon (14 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • Sprinkles or crushed nuts (optional, e.g., finely crushed pistachios, rainbow sprinkles, edible gold stars)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to catch drips and arrange pencil pretzel rods nearby.
  2. Place yellow chocolate melts, softened butter, and vegetable oil in a heatproof bowl over gently simmering water (double boiler). Stir frequently until smooth and glossy, about 5-7 minutes. Avoid water contact with chocolate.
  3. Dip a pretzel rod halfway into the melted chocolate to test coating thickness. Add more oil if too thick.
  4. Dip each pencil pretzel rod about two-thirds of the way into the yellow chocolate. Let excess drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet or cooling rack.
  5. While chocolate is wet, sprinkle optional toppings over the coated section.
  6. Allow chocolate to harden at room temperature for 20-30 minutes or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to set faster.
  7. Once set, serve immediately or package as gifts.

Notes

Use low heat when melting chocolate to avoid seizing or burning. Work quickly when dipping pretzels to prevent uneven coating. Store finished pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispiness. Refrigeration can cause condensation and soften pretzels. For dairy-free, swap butter with coconut oil and use dairy-free chocolate melts. Gluten-free pretzel rods can be used for gluten-sensitive diets.
