Creamy Campfire Banana Boats

creamy campfire banana boats - featured image

A simple and delicious 3-ingredient dessert featuring bananas and chocolate, cooked over a campfire or in the oven for a warm, creamy treat.

Ingredients

  • Bananas (firm but ripe, medium-sized)
  • Chocolate bars or chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate preferred, about 2-3 tablespoons or 30-45g per banana)
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Using a paring knife, slice each banana lengthwise down the middle, but do not cut all the way through; keep the peel intact to hold the filling.
  2. Stuff the slit banana with chunks or chips of chocolate, about 2-3 tablespoons per banana.
  3. Wrap each stuffed banana tightly in a piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil, sealing well to trap heat and steam.
  4. Place the foil packets on hot embers or a grill rack over the campfire. Turn occasionally with tongs to cook evenly for 10-15 minutes until the chocolate is melted and the banana is soft but not mushy.
  5. Carefully remove the foil packets from the fire and let them rest for 1-2 minutes to cool slightly.
  6. Open the foil carefully, watch out for steam, and serve warm. Optionally, sprinkle with nuts or cinnamon before serving.

Notes

Use ripe but firm bananas with a few brown spots for best texture. Wrap foil tightly to trap steam and cook over medium heat embers to avoid burning. Chocolate melts best after 10-15 minutes. For indoor cooking, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes. Avoid microwaving to prevent mushy bananas. Optional add-ons include chopped nuts, mini marshmallows, cinnamon, or sea salt.
