These spooky yet cute pretzel rods are dipped in green-tinted white chocolate and topped with almond fingernails, creating a fun and easy Halloween treat that comes together in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1214 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy ones like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (about 170g, good quality like Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (or vegetable oil in a pinch)
  • 23 drops green gel food coloring (Americolor ‘Leaf Green’ recommended)
  • 2428 sliced almonds (raw, flat pieces)
  • Optional: edible glitter or black sanding sugar for decoration

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set pretzel rods and almonds nearby.
  2. Place white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until mostly melted (about 1-1.5 minutes total). Stir until smooth. Do not overheat.
  3. Add 2-3 drops of green gel food coloring to the melted chocolate and stir until evenly colored. Add more drops for a deeper shade if desired.
  4. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the green chocolate, rotating to coat about two-thirds of the rod. Let excess drip off, then place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with all pretzels.
  5. While the chocolate is still wet, press one sliced almond onto the tip of each pretzel rod, pointed end outward, to resemble a fingernail. Gently press to adhere.
  6. Use a toothpick or small skewer to drag 2-3 lines across the chocolate to create knuckle lines, about halfway down from the tip. Add tiny lines at the base of the almond for cuticles if desired.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm. Do not leave longer than 30 minutes to avoid condensation.
  8. Optional: Melt a small amount of leftover green chocolate and pipe tiny lines or dots for warts/wrinkles. Add a tiny dab of red gel coloring at the base of the nail for a ‘bloody’ effect if desired.
  9. Once set, gently lift pretzels off the parchment. Serve immediately or store.

Notes

Do not overheat white chocolate; it burns easily. Use gel food coloring to avoid seizing. Press almonds on immediately after dipping while chocolate is wet. For best results, let pretzels come to room temperature before dipping. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 2 months.
