Cozy Severed Finger Hot Dogs with Almond Nails: Easy Halloween Recipe

cozy severed finger hot dogs - featured image

A fun and spooky Halloween snack that transforms hot dogs into severed fingers with almond fingernails, wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfect for parties, movie nights, or when you need a laugh.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 hot dogs (standard size, not jumbo)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 16 whole raw almonds
  • Ketchup (for the blood effect)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for warty texture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the hot dogs: Cut each hot dog in half crosswise to make 16 short finger pieces.
  3. Cut the knuckle lines: Using a sharp knife, make 2-3 shallow slits across the top of each hot dog piece.
  4. Prepare the dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate along perforations into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 2 thin strips to make 16 strips total.
  5. Wrap the fingers: Take one dough strip and wrap it around a hot dog piece, starting at one end and spiraling slightly. Leave the top quarter of the hot dog exposed for the fingertip.
  6. Attach the almond nail: Press one raw almond firmly into the exposed tip of the hot dog, about halfway. Use a tiny dab of ketchup as glue if needed.
  7. Place on baking sheet: Arrange wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch between each.
  8. Brush with butter (optional): Brush the dough with melted butter for a golden-brown color.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and puffy. If almonds brown too much, tent with foil for the last 2 minutes.
  10. Add the blood: Let cool for 2 minutes, then drizzle a little ketchup near the cut end of each finger.
  11. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Don’t skip the knuckle lines for the best visual effect. Press almonds firmly into hot dogs to prevent them from falling off during baking. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent roll dough and adjust baking time as needed. For a dairy-free version, skip the butter brush or use a dairy-free alternative. These are best served warm and fresh from the oven.
