This spooky spiderweb veggie platter is a quick and easy Halloween appetizer that looks like a work of art. With fresh veggies and a creamy ranch dip, it’s a crowd-pleaser that brings a touch of nostalgia to any party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large cucumber, cut into thin sticks
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 cup baby carrots
  • 1 cup snap peas or snow peas
  • 1/2 cup black olives, pitted
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds (optional)
  • 12 plastic or edible spider rings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash all vegetables thoroughly. Cut cucumber into 3-inch long sticks, about 1/4 inch thick. Slice bell peppers into similar-sized strips. Leave baby carrots whole. Set aside on a clean towel to dry.
  2. In a small bowl, combine ranch dressing and sour cream. Stir until smooth. Spoon this mixture into the center of a large round platter, forming a small, flat circle about 4 inches wide.
  3. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the remaining dip mixture into a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner. Pipe 8 straight lines from the center hub to the edge of the platter, like spokes on a wheel.
  4. Starting from the center, pipe curved lines connecting the spokes, working outward. Create about 4-5 concentric, slightly squiggly circles.
  5. Place veggie sticks along the piped spokes and curves. Use cucumber sticks for main web strands, and red and yellow peppers for accents. Tuck snap peas in between.
  6. Cut a few black olives in half lengthwise. Place one olive half in the center of the dip hub for the spider body. Cut thin slivers from remaining olive halves and arrange around the body for legs. Make several smaller spiders using whole olives and thin bell pepper strips for legs.
  7. Sprinkle black sesame seeds around the base of the dip hub for a ‘dirt’ effect. Add plastic spider rings if desired. Serve immediately or chill for up to an hour.

Notes

For best results, use a thick ranch dressing mixed with sour cream to help the web lines hold their shape. Cut veggies into thin, uniform sticks (about the thickness of a pinky finger). Prep veggies a day ahead and store in cold water in the fridge. Blot cut veggies dry with a paper towel before placing on the platter to prevent the dip from running.
