A quick and easy garlic bread recipe ready in just 15 minutes, featuring a buttery, garlicky spread and crisp edges. Perfect for busy weeknights or as a comforting side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf crusty French bread or Italian baguette (about 12 inches)
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large cloves garlic, minced finely (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Pinch of sea salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Optional: ¼ cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat if using stovetop.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes or Parmesan. Mix until smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Slice the bread into 1-inch thick slices, leaving the bottom crust intact to keep the loaf in one piece.
  4. Generously spread the garlic butter mixture between each slice and over the top of the loaf, pushing the butter deep into the cuts.
  5. If using the oven: Wrap the loaf loosely in aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, then open the foil and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes to crisp the top.
  6. If using stovetop: Place the loaf cut-side down in the hot skillet. Press gently with a spatula and toast for 3-4 minutes until golden. Flip and toast the other side for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Check that the bread is golden and crispy on the outside with melted garlic butter inside. If needed, cook another minute or two.
  8. Slice fully through the cuts and serve warm immediately.

Notes

Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Soften butter before mixing. Watch bread closely to avoid overbaking. For vegan version, use vegan butter and omit Parmesan. Gluten-free baguette can be used with slight cooking time adjustment. Leftovers can be reheated in toaster oven or broiler for crispness.
