  • Gluten-free sandwich bread
  • Whipped ricotta cheese
  • Cream cheese, softened
  • Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla, or coconut yogurt for dairy-free)
  • Nut butters (almond, peanut, sunflower seed)
  • Fruit preserves (strawberry, raspberry, apricot)
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries)
  • Sliced bananas
  • Citrus segments (orange, grapefruit, blood orange)
  • Thinly sliced apples or pears
  • Chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, pistachios)
  • Shredded coconut
  • Mini chocolate chips or dark chocolate shavings
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Chia seeds, hemp hearts, flaxseed
  • Roasted veggies (cherry tomatoes, asparagus, bell peppers)
  • Avocado slices
  • Microgreens or arugula

Instructions

  1. Slice 1-2 loaves of bread (about 1/2 inch thick). Plan for 2 slices per guest.
  2. Toast bread slices in a toaster or under the broiler (2-3 minutes per side) until golden and crisp.
  3. Spoon ricotta, cream cheese, and yogurt into bowls. Whip ricotta with a fork for 1 minute for extra fluffiness. Let nut butters and preserves come to room temperature.
  4. Wash and dry berries. Slice bananas, apples, pears, and citrus into bite-sized pieces. Chop nuts. Arrange all toppings in small bowls or ramekins.
  5. Set up a serving board with toasted bread slices. Arrange bowls of spreads and toppings around the bread. Add serving utensils.
  6. Invite guests to build their own toast creations, mixing sweet and savory toppings as desired.
  7. If bread cools or gets soggy, re-toast for 30 seconds. Keep napkins handy and replenish bread and toppings as needed.

Notes

Toast bread right before serving for best texture. Offer a variety of breads and toppings to accommodate dietary needs. Whip ricotta and cream cheese for extra creaminess. Toss apple and pear slices in lemon juice to prevent browning. Label spreads and toppings for allergy awareness.
