Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on or off)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (can swap for almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (or use flax egg for vegan option)
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Cooking spray (preferably avocado or olive oil spray)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat your peeled and deveined shrimp dry with paper towels.
  2. In one bowl, whisk the egg. In another, combine the flour, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Toss shrimp in the seasoned flour mix and shake off excess.
  4. Dip shrimp into the beaten egg, letting excess drip off.
  5. Press shrimp into the panko breadcrumbs, ensuring full coating.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
  7. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray and arrange shrimp in a single layer without overcrowding.
  8. Air fry shrimp for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. While shrimp cook, whisk together ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  10. Serve shrimp immediately with the tangy cocktail sauce, garnished with lemon wedges or fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry thoroughly to ensure crispiness. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. Lightly spray shrimp with oil before air frying for best crunch. Cook shrimp just until golden to avoid rubberiness. Make cocktail sauce fresh for best flavor.
